On this E.P. of varying tempo the slower it gets, the better it gets. Opening trance shapes emerge from Roland`s silver box. In a drama of nightfall they writhe like snakes, guitar runs suggesting rattlers at a Joshua Tree lit by unforgettable fire, or pythons readying as Jonny Nash jams in the jungle. Crockett & Tubbs chase from Miami Beach to Transfer Station Blue. Baldelli wrong-speed beats have “Sade wading through treacle” (Copyright Ruf Dug). Seductive Soul Jazz moves languid like lovers who believe they have time, fooled by passion`s drug, fools for each other. A saxophone coils like the smoke from a cigarette in the dark, has them aroused, everything hard, consumed and lost in whispered forevers` confidence trick. Undressing and naked, life`s transience become a sadness momentarily banished, though it still watches in shadows and is there for those that can`t help but look. Me, I see `80s film stars in soft focus, half-light, lip-gloss and lingerie. An idealized promise of the only true cure.
