Born in Hungary in 1894, photographer André Kertész moved from Budapest to Paris in 1925 in search of international fame & fortune, and then, as World War II threatened, to New York. He worked for magazines such as Vu, Harper`s Bazaar, Vogue, and Life, and published over 20 collections of his photographs. He was the subject of gallery and museum exhibitions every year until his death in 1985. Kertész`s striking painting-like compositions might now appear common place but he is considered by many to be the father of photojournalism.

Kertész`s “Two Gypsies” was used by The Pop Group for the cover of their 1980 album, “For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?” Forever it seems.
