Auckland, New Zealand's sprawling spiritual Jazz ensemble, The Circling Sun, returns for a new album on Soundway Records. Expect notes of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Azymuth, the more ambient side of the jazz universe, and a little Roy Ayers. Seven sun-kissed tracks that carry an equal level of currency on the floor at the function, or afterwards when you're slumped on the couch the next day. This one pairs nicely with Sampology's recent Ripen EP.

Amsterdam mainstay Beraber turns in a smooth, soulful house EP for the United Identities label. The product of a period of introspection and personal growth, the six tracks on "Gentle Action" bubble, ebb, glide and flow. At my end, the standout cut is 'Responsibility' ft. Ivy Barkakati. Set against vivid, future-forward beatscape, Barkakati recites a series of mantras for success in a classic spoken word house style. Bookending the 12", Brazilian artist Zopelar turns in a striking remix of 'Responsibility' dripping in digital psychedelia.

Elegant and ornate chamber pop that wouldn't sound out of place in the soundtrack of a remake of "Fantasia." A serial collaborator and creator, in the past, Daniel O'Sullivan has worked with Ulver, Sunn O))), This Is Not This Heat, Grumbling Fur and Miracle (with Steve Moore), as well as contributing extensively to KPM's production music legacy. A tale told in 17 acts, "Eros" is a staggering display of complex melodic and rhythmic arrangements, lush soundscapes, and sprawling ensemble work. Fittingly, it's out on vinyl via Be With.

Portland, Oregon musician, sound designer, and film composer Patricia Wolf boards the Balmat hovercraft for the second time with her new album, "Hrafnamynd". This time, it's the film soundtrack for experimental filmmaker Edward Pack Davee's documentary of the same name (Icelandic for “raven film”). Shot on a mix of film and digital, and incorporating his father’s Ektachrome slides from the 1970s, the autobiographical film works on multiple levels at once: it's a reflection on his childhood in Iceland, an exploration of landscape and folklore, and a study of the island nation’s signature ravens—including a talking raven named Krummi. Fittingly, Wolf's ambient score is imbued with all the mystery, magic and sweeping grandeur you'd hope for from such a project. Primarily created using the UDO Super 6 synthesiser, it's a masterclass in texture and tone.
