Marion from the great Sound Advice store in Belfast is back with some new reviews of tracks currently making waves at the store...

T-Woc - Scenes, Journeys & Colors - Rudimentary
Wicklow native Mick Donohoe drops his fourth album of heavily listenable off centre grooves influenced by the land of the rising sun. His symbiotic relationship with Belfast label Rudimentary, with a solid roster of releases that include Bass Clef, Brendan Moller, The Cyclist, is a super fit. It’s every bit an underground label sticking to its guns on direction and home for all things weird and wonky. "Scenes.." takes inspiration from a chance encounter with a boombox on an Osaka street, made up of deft playful sounds that engage and peak the listener's curiosity. Highlights include the futuristic Nippon crusing theme of Lost in Thought (which evokes memories of Yello's soundtrack of anime classic Space Adventure Cobra), Spring Snow’s delicate frosty morning noodlings and Nova Yorky with its dream like hazy rhythms evocative of italian dream house but pitched down to comatose.

Space Time Continuum - Alien Dreamtime - Sound Metaphors
Jonah Sharpe is one of the West Coast sound’s journeyman, with an impeccable output on Astralwerks and his own Reflective label, alongside collaborations with Pete Namlook (Fax), Move D (Source) Bill Laswell, Mixmaster Morris & Tetsu Inoue. A CD / VHS only release back in 1993, Alien Dreamtime was a multi media event with Sharpe weaving transient sound over Terence Mckenna’s narrative around experimenting with psychedelics, believing in a higher forces mind and general space cadetery. Though Mckenna's tones may not be for everyone the glue here is STC's cosmic beams making it a must for any horizontally inclined heads. Sound Metaphors do god's work finally press this wigged out wonder to wax.

Red Pig Flower - Practice Love - Sound of Vast
The debut album from Seoul's Red Pig Flower on her co founded Sound of Vast label is a journey back to my locked in nostalgic sound of proper mid 90's house. Like a fusion of Gemini, Derrick Carter & Herbert the class oozes off RPG's productions with a maturity and focus over the course of 9 tracks. From the heads down grooves on Feel Good Music, to the dialed up sass on No Money and Sax & Drug. Practice Love's tuff jack echoes Derrick Carter & Luke Solomon's early noughties Classic catalogue while I wanna Meet Somebody takes me back to DC's Sound Patrol tones. I Love To Dance is a shoe in for those upcoming festival sunrise sessions with it's euphoric
warmth. Rightly so getting props from all over including support from Honey Dijon, Moxie etc. very lush listening!

Lolina/Dr Pit - Lolina’s Music Is The Drug - Relaxin Records
One thing i love when doing the buying for the shop is taking a punt on something that you know nothing about. Those 1min (30second) sound snippets are full of intrigue and possibilities. Once I hear a hook, melody or bass line i'm sold. The culprit an unknown (to me) Lolina : skewed Nicolette-esque vocals over a twinkling bassline and James Bond worthy orchestral strings. Dark with and ounce forboding is the perfect recipe to lure an innocent listener down that alleyway of discovery. Tip!
