Ned Dickinson has been one to watch for some time now. From tidy edits under his Tech Support alias, fat-bottomed bangers for M.A.D., to four slices of paradisiacal dreamy vibes earlier this spring. If you missed his Tucana EP, go cop it now, we'll wait. The "Ashley's Roachclip" break pitched up and balearicised. Some trance-y business with just a whiff of patchouli.
Having contributed a few choice cuts to Rhythm Section comps over the last few years, "Replica" is his first solo EP for the label. Squarely in the 90s revival sound we've been hearing a quite a bit of lately (only the best bits please), it's as well-rounded and impeccably produced as anything we've seen on Rhythm Section. The title cut kicks things off with breakbeats cascading into 4/4, synth arpeggios, a flute riff, and, as if you didn't get the point, the word "ecstasy" stuttering out over the proceedings. "89" is dreamhouse workout, orchestral stabs, piano deepness, a Spanish vocal (courtesy of actress/model Dariam Coco)--and a squiggly loon call for good measure. "Unknowns" is another nice proggy workout. "Last Dance" turns things moody, really a top elegiac vibe which would be just perfect to change up the pace in a set.
"Replica" is out on vinyl & digital from 10-October and is available on Bandcamp.
