After knocking it out of the ballpark with their early singles "Night Time" featuring Private Joy, "Feel It/So Hot", and their debut album, "Exotic Illusions", Sydney-based Australian production duo D.D. Mirage step back up. This time around, they're serving up a new 10" single for the Isle of Jura label, "Echoes" with a very special guest vocal from the modern street soul movement's leading man, North Carolina singer Teddy Bryant.
Given their mutual love of the soulful sound system sounds of the 1980s in the UK, for "Echoes", D.D. Mirage and Teddy Bryant opted to take things down a Lovers Rock route. But because it's D.D. Mirage at the controls and Teddy on the microphone, there has to be a twist or two thrown in there. For this cut, it's touches of ambient dream pop, sophisti-pop and psychedelia. Isle of Jura has described it as, "the kind of record that slips perfectly between Sade, Tom Tom Club and a lost Compass Point B-side." They're not wrong.
Over on the flip, they serve up a dub version of "Echoes" subtitled "Introspective Dub". Unsurprisingly, it does exactly what it says on the label. I dunno about the rest of you down in here in the South Pacific, but I'm feeling like we're having a Lovers Rock summer.
"Echoes" is up for pre-order in 10" and digital versions via Isle of Jura now.
