For anyone suffering fatigue from wading through pages of new releases lacking any semblance of actual fun, this new Mayurashka record is here to help lift you out of the doldrums! LSI Dreaming features four diverse cuts just begging to be mixed, all deployed not only with a clear understanding of dance floor dynamics, but also a sly wink and a smile by the Tokyo-based producer and DJ. If you’re not familiar with Mayurashka’s work, this debut for Rhythm Section Intl will have you checking back through her releases for Public Possession, Animals Dancing, Studio Barnhus and Osàre! Editions, among others.

Lead track ‘Parents and God’ is a classic house slammer that perfectly encapsulates the way Mayurashka fills her productions with playful samples and quirky personality. Yes there is a very meaty house groove that screams ‘A1 material’ but Mayurushka peppers it with some goofy Fab Five Freddy and wooshing fighter jet samples before a few cheeky organ breakdowns grab your attention. This is then followed by a killer 'master-mix'-style detour through some classic drum breaks before Mayurashka smartly locks back into that groove to ride out the cut.

‘Cat Murmur’ effortlessly pivots into cowbell-heavy disco dub territory, with Mayurashka slowly winding up the intensity once a hefty bass line cuts in; what sounds like the opening drumroll from Beastie Boys classic ‘Hey Ladies’ is among the many samples deployed here. What could be chaotic in another producer’s hands feels perfectly judged in Mayurashka’s. This is also evident on the title track which unwinds from an early 2000s minimal house groove into something quite hypnotic; record shop previews won’t do this one justice. In the press notes, Bradley Zero states he’d close P-Bar with this track given the opportunity.

‘Notango’ is a personal highlight of this record, and finds Mayurashka veering down a very intense and chaotic wormhole of slippery percussive house music devilry. I personally love these types of tracks where it sounds like the drums are constantly trying to escape their confines and go feral. ‘Notango’ in particular demands to be slammed in the mix, a track to be deployed when a mood shift is required.

LSI Dreaming by Mayurashka is released on July 4, 2025 and can be got at the RSI bandcamp.
