Sydney-based Planet Trip has emerged as one of the essential labels in the post-pandemic space. Since 2019 Mike Who has put together a brilliant back catalogue of releases that span the genres but have that kind of wonky left-of-center vibe we love here at TP--and with artwork to match. Digi-dub, acid, sexy balearic bangers. Their '1800 triiip' mix series slaps, dive in below:
What makes the sound of summer? The newest 12" on Planet Trip from Munich duo Rhode & Brown can go someway toward answering that. Five tracks of lovely summer sounds you want emanating from your ride, from cafes--from everywhere, really. "Heart Attack" leads things off with the steamiest 808 this side of "Sexual Healing", a boogie bassline, and sweet vocal from Marlena Dae. "Passion Sauce" moves into street soul territory with another vocal from Marlena. It's that sophisticated euro-RnB vibe fans of Erika de Casier are going to dig. "Aqua Terra (Acid Frog Mix)" has that uptempo Sleng Teng thing PLUS frogs. "Long Doggo" is a lost boogie instrumental side dug up and posted on Insta by your favourite selector. "Multiflora" cools down the pace back into dubbed out wonky synth lines. The OG demo of "Aqua Terra" (sans frogs) is available as a digital bonus, a new jack beat mingled with a sweet acid line. Top work.
Aqua Terra is available from Bandcamp on vinyl/digital 15-August
