Recent TP mix alumnus Eden Burns, returns with a new BBM in a spot one past the X, coming in with volume 11 on Public Possession. Bleepy techno inflected house with spoken space narrative on the meaning of the music. This is house. Coming over like a pair of sonic wire cutters taking apart the notion of unnecessary fat and stripping the music back to the raw. Each track opines on the nature of house and provides a little challenge on what that music could mean. But it’s not just about pseudo intellectual musings. It also does the dirty work, creating prime dancefloor fuel in the process.
‘Challenge God with Your House’ channels some early rave energy with heavy heavy filtering and compression on the drums and a heartbeat bleep. A nicely intensive opening. ‘House of Fortune’ pumps hard with densely packed drum lines and surging acid lines. Again there’s some nice ferocity in amongst the action, definitely loud material.
There are two mixes of ‘Snares of Fortune’, original and the Mosgiel mix. The original very much sticks to the feeling of the other tunes here. Energy, bite and very danceable. The latter mix goes for a more breakbeat angle, there’s some nice backwards sweeping and requisite mid section breakdown for a little breather, but the let up is only brief. The track builds into a finale with some nice spacey banjo-esque noises before closing out to rest. The manifesto has landed its message. Roll on the dozen.
Out via Public Possession on 13 March.
