It’s almost exactly a year since Lexx’s last release on International Feel, the aptly named ‘Into the Stream’. Now after another circuit of the sun, he’s back, same label, another different vibe but the same high quality musical excursions as ever. ‘In Between State’ floats somewhere familiar, mixing emotive depth and a quiet force of forward motion.
Yes, it’s Balearic as it comes in places, ‘Another Beach’ will certainly get a rinse or two while the darkness falls, but it’s more than that sound by numbers. A guitar subtly chops in the background while shimmering synths and filtered drum sounds do the dirty work. ‘Unison’ has a more dancefloor feel, nudging the tempo ever slightly up a notch or two, again there will no doubt be some smiling faces out and about when this one drops. Right time, right place.

The title track has a more complex form, some nice keys work and effects swirl to create an atmospheric aura that plays again with the possible. Last up, ‘Durch Hinterland’ goes in a balearic meets post-punk staccato direction, looser than the more measured feel of some of the other pieces here, it sign posts yet another path Lexx is happy to explore.
